AMD recently introduced a completely new generation of Ryzen 7000 processors. There were a lot of changes, and they affect not only the CPUs themselves, but also the platform in general. Together with ASUS, we select components for PCs based on Ryzen 7000 and consider the features of such a system, because new products are already on sale.

Processors

AMD Ryzen 7000 processors received the new Zen 4 architecture and are the first desktop CPUs in the world to be manufactured using the 5nm process.

Combining even greater performance and energy efficiency, they are a great choice for powerful gaming PCs, systems for enthusiasts and content creators.

The 16-core AMD Ryzen 9 7950X became the flagship of the line. At the moment, 12-core Ryzen 9 7900X, 8-core Ryzen 7 7700X and 6-core Ryzen 5 7600X are also announced.

AM5 socket and motherboards

Along with the Ryzen 7000 processors, AMD introduced a completely new platform based on the AM5 socket with the AMD X670 Extreme (X670E), X670, B650E and B650 chipsets.

AMD X670E and X670 based boards will be the first to go on sale. These are chipsets for extreme and very powerful motherboards, and more affordable models for the B650E and B650 will be released later.

The main changes that came with AM5 are the transition to DDR5 memory and support for the PCIe 5.0 bus. An interesting detail — the contact legs are now not the processor, but the socket itself. In this regard, the new platform began to resemble solutions from Intel.

A certain drawback can be called the fact that AM5 motherboards and Ryzen 7000 processors are not compatible with their predecessors. Accordingly, the Ryzen 7000 processor cannot be installed on an AM4 motherboard, and the CPU of the previous generation will not work in the new AM5 motherboards.

ASUS has already released a whole set of boards on the X670E chipset, which belong to the ROG, ROG Strix, TUF Gaming, ProArt and Prime series, and differ in equipment, set of functions, size, price, etc.

Most of them are ATX boards. But the trend of powerful, but at the same time compact assemblies is also taken into account. For example, the ROG Crosshair X670E Gene 90MB1B80-M0EAY0 model combines excellent functionality, an advanced power system, the widest set of options for enthusiasts and overclockers and, at the same time, is made in a medium-sized MicroATX form factor.

Graphic card

Entry-level graphic cards will provide an acceptable level of FPS when using Full HD resolution. Comfortable 2K gaming will require something advanced like RX 6750 XT, RTX 3070.

And for 4K images, it is better to prepare even more powerful models — RTX 3080/3080 Ti and above TUF series, ROG Strix or video cards based on RX 6800 XT and above.

We should also note that a new generation is on the way — models based on the RTX 4090, and later the RTX 4080.

Cooling

Looking at the growth of TDP compared to predecessors, the relevance of liquid cooling systems increases. By choosing AIO instead of conventional air coolers, in addition to high cooling performance and quiet operation, you also get additional options for stylish design of your build.

For six- and eight-core Ryzen 5, Ryzen 7 of the 7000 series, dual-fan coolers ASUS TUF Gaming LC 240 ARGB, 90RC00G1-M0UAY0 ROG Strix LC II 240 90RC00E0-M0UAY0 will be quite enough. And for Ryzen 9 processors, it is better to choose something more powerful: ROG Strix LC II 360 ARGB 90RC00F1-M0UAY0, ROG Strix LC II 280 ARGB 90RC00C1-M0UAY0 or ROG RYUJIN II 360 ARGB 90RC00B1-M0UAY0.

Power Supply

Largely the required power of the power supply unit is determined by the connection between the processor and the graphic card used in the system. Moreover, if the video graphic is productive, it will consume the lion's share of energy.

In a system with not the most advanced components, you can get by with a 550 or 650 W BJ. If we are talking about a fast gaming PC, you will need something from 850 W. These and higher capacities are available in the ASUS TUF Gaming, ROG Thor and ROG Strix power supply lines.

By the way, ASUS recently introduced a new line of TUF Gaming motherboards with an 80 Plus Gold energy efficiency certificate and compliance with ATX 3.0 requirements.

Case

The choice of the case is also an important part. From such a significant level of protection through the system will arrive visually and how well to produce components seriously.

As before, ROG Strix Helios is ASUS' flagship flagship. Economical selection of affordable ASUS TUF Gaming GT301 and GT501 mobile cases.

And the ASUS arsenal now has the Prime AP201 model in black or white. This compact and inexpensive case will interest even enthusiasts, because with a volume of only 33 liters, it is able to "take on board" large video cards up to 338 mm long and even three-fan liquid cooling systems of 360 mm format.
